Help entering code on my stock radio please.

I had to replace my Jetta's battery and now my radio is locked. Got the code but can't get the radio to unlock. If I enter the code and press Track Seek Foward or the Tuning Forward buttons for 3 seconds, the radio beeps then goes to "1 Safe". Repeat and it goes to "2 Safe" and stays that way. It automatically resets when left of for about an hour, but need to know the button or combination of buttons to press to 'enter' the code. BTW, pressing Mode and Scan at the same time won't do it, no Mode button on my radio. I have a picure of the radio but not sure how to attach it?!?!
Thanks for any and all relies.

That sucks man, you are doing it right as far as I know. That is exactly how I did mine and it always worked fine. Do you still have the VW radio manual? I would go check mine but it unfortunatly got "borrowed" but never returned!

Since you have no mode button, does that mean you have a 98-99 radio? The one with the round scan button in the upper right corner of the radio? If so, when you turn on your radio, you should see the word "SAFE" and then shortly after you should see "1000". Using the preset station buttons 1-4 enter the code. Once done, press the right side of the SEEK button ">" until you hear a tone. And that should be it, unless you a different radio.
