My wife's car is a '92 B3 16v wagon with 85K miles. The car needs 4 new shocks. What do you all recommend?? Are the stock (OEM) shocks made by Boge? We only plan to keep the car for 1 or 2 more years. Where do you suggest I buy them??? I see that Autotech is having a 20% off sale.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Help for replacing B3 shocks (B5Speedo)

I have Bode Turbo Gas in my B3 and love them.. Coupled with the Neuspeed springs the car is a whole new beast! I have had good luck with Boge (many other VW's..) I don't recommend KYB for they seem to blow out too easily.

Re: Help for replacing B3 shocks (mattw)

MATTW, Why are the rears so hard to do? Do you have any secrets to pass along? So far I have found that I can get all four shocks at shox.com for $289. Anyone know of a beeter place to buy shocks?

Good choice with Shox.com. Not only do they usually have the best prices but they always do research for you. I had a question one time and they got me directly in contact with a rep at Boge.
As for the wagon rears, the main pain in the butt is removing ALL of the black plastic trim from the rear seats back in order to get to the securing bolts at the top of the shock tower. You'll also ahve to remove the rear weat belts, as they are mounted to the same tower. When you have all of the bolts loose, and are about to be frustrated because the shocks still aren't dropping, remind yourself that they are being held there by a handy black plastic cup that locks into place through the hole at the top of the shock tower. I think it twists a little then drops. This seems silly as you are removing the old shocks but proves invaluable when you are trying to remount the new ones, especially if you are working alone. It too me about 3 times as long to do the rears on my Passat as it did to do them on a Jetta or Golf.
Good luck, man! It's good to hear that you are being a do-for-selfer.
