help!! getting ready to replace wheel bearings...

Getting ready to replace my front wheel bearings. So I wanted to know from those that did it.
1. What did you use to pull the race off the hub?? the old chisel and hammer method or did you use a real puller and if so, where did you get it.
2. Did you do it with the hub still attached to the car or did you remove the hub. If you removed the hub what did you use to get the hub off the axle and how hard was it to get off??
3. Any forseeable issues or problems that I might run into.
TIA

The front wheel bearings on the VR6 will either need to be pressed out or use a special air tool (Snap-On, $350~) which will extract/install the new bearing while the hub is still on the car. If you use the special tool, then the likelihood of an alignment is reduced, if not eliminated.
Pay someone to do it, it'll be worth it.

My brother is the shop manager for a car dealership(not vw) so I can get access to the tools and lift that I need. He has not done a vw before so we just want to see what all is involved before we get started. I'm not sure if the press he has will work on a vw though.

take the whole knuckle off and use a press. its much easier and doesnt take all that long. use a scribe to mark where the strut was on the knuckle so u dont have to realign. take the entire cv shaft out, still connected to the knuckle so u can press that off as well

I second the suggestion of taking the assembly off the car. Take it to the dealer or other reputable VWshop. Have them press the old ones off and press the new ones on. shouldn't cost you more than 50 bucks.
