my wife called me to come and get her because her car (96 passat GLX)
just died on the road.. she said it started fine at work but she went to make a turn
on the way home and it just went dead
I tried to start it and it cranks really good but will not start
I am not sure if the fuel pumps are supposed to run when the key is in the start position, i could not hear either one
any ideas on what this could be

here are the codes I got
I have no clue what they mean
3 Faults Found:
16824 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Malfunction
P0440 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17990 - Idle Adaptation Limit Reached
P1582 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16806 - Main Catalyst: Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0422 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Ok after swapping parts with my car I got it to start
it will idle fine but when you start to drive if you take your foot off the gas the rpms drop below normal and it seems to want to stall but hangs in there
put it back in park and it seems normal again
