Help! Hood cable... I've searched, just can't find the latch

413 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  luckyslc
My car is at my mechanic right now, and sometime in the towing process to the mechanic(towed with a rope) I must have broken my hood cable. Now, I've looked in the CCA archives, and found a tip, but I can't seem to find the latch! And my mechanic has proceeded to scrape and dent the crap out of my hood trying to get to it. The grill is already off... I don't know what to do!

It's been a while, but, you may be able to get at them easier if you take the front bumper off...good luck.

Two latches, one behind the edge facing the grille of each headlight.
It's a metal rod with a loop in the end. Insert a metal hook through the grille, into the loop and pull. Repeat on the other side. No nee to remove bumper or anything.

If the cable isn't acctually broken you might be able to just pull on the the housing and open the hood. It's black about 3/4 of a cm thick and you can see it if you look into the grill near the top drivers side corner.

there is a chance that you may have just snapped the plastic plunger piece (the pieces on either side of the headlight grills that actually guide the cable. the piece on the driver's side is made of plastic --that's what broke on mine
when you get the hood open, you might want to get the metal replacement piece with the 2 screws from the passenger side. just pull out the screws and thread the cable through.
