Re: Help me decide! $500 (approx.) to spend! (djGolfGTI)

Don't base your suspension choice on price...this is very important change to the car.
Search around, read up, find what is best for what you want to do, then make a choice.

Re: Help me decide! $500 (BostonMk4)

The first thing I would do is suspension tooo
But as mentioned, do your homework on all of the different suspension products available. Dont base your suspension solely on price, its a big decision

Re: Help me decide! $500 (JKO)

If I had $500-$600 to spend on my car and it was stock . . .
I would get a UP-chip ($350), ITG drop in airfilter ($60), and a Forge DV ($150) which totals to $560.
I have all of these on my car (sig is wrong) and have no problems and good HP gains for the money.

I'm going to agree with the folks saying not to base suspension on price alone.
I originally had the Bilstein PSS9 coilovers ... never put them on my car 'cos of various QC issues. Now I have the Wietec GT 30mm kit.
I went with the coils 'cos I got them for a great price, and I thought the ability to raise and lower the car, and change the stiffness would be great. But once I sold them, I realized that a suspension setup without all those features would be fine, so long as the ride was what I wanted, and the drop was what I wanted (just a little lower than stock, nothing radical). The Weitec 30mm kit fit that perfectly ... but I only found that out once I had ridden in someones car, and seen various pics of the drop. Even then I waited to purchase them, and was able to get in on a GB.
Take your time ... no rush. Make sure you get what you want the first time around .... it's less expensive.

so I understand you are saying "don't base your suspension choice on price alone", but you then say you got the Weitec kit and are happy. See, the Weitec kit can be had for $400 from Rapidparts right now. So he's win-win. I'd suggest the Weitec kit, but I don't have any reasons for or against it as a kit. So someone else would need to fill in the blank with "the Weitec kit isn't good because _______". If no one can, that GT kit would seem to be a no-brainer...

Re: Help me decide! $500 (GTeyeVR6)

Dude
The weekend before the superbowl
I was in vegas with $20.00 to bet and left with $400.00
put down $100.00 of that on Patriots with 4-1 and came out with $400.00
so 1 week I turned $20.00 into $800.00
so I ended up with 40 X what I started.
To bad I didn't have your $500.00 to play, I'd be able to pay off the car loan

On a VR6? Forget about the chip -- not a big-time improvement like it is on a pre-2002 1.8T... Suspension all the way. Weitec GT 30 mm as per your poll, or Eibach ProSystem (see sig for details) are the best mild to moderate suspension choices. Add a rear bar if you're feeling frisky.

Huh?
Sure, the Weitec kit works for me ... but maybe he won't like the drop, or the stiffness. Just 'cos something fits someone's present budget doesn't mean they should rush out and buy it. That's the point I was trying to make. Sorry if it was muddled.

I was muddled too - what I meant was "The Weitec GT kit is cheap - why? Is it inferior to, say the KW sport system or Neuspeeds w/ Billsteins?"
Why is the Weitec so cheap? Or is it just an insanely good deal?
