Re: *****HELP ME, Installed chip and car wont start***** (bobby_t1)

are you sure you put it in right, it is a rectangle, make sure the corner with the indent on it is on the correct corner on the board. Other than that, you either got the wrong chip, or its fry'd.
Hope this helps

Re: Thiese chips are a hassel..... (96VW2NV)

did you try to put the stock chip back in and see if that one works???? I know at first i started to put my chip in backwards, then when i started to put everything back together i noticed it. I would see if the stock chip still works..... Or maybe did you bend any of the prongs on the chip??? did you give it a firm pust on to the ecu???? (just throwing some things out there)

Yeah I put the stock chip back in and the car starts.. I'm pretty sure it's a bad GIAC chip.. Hopefully i can get this thing swapped for a good one.

I think this was mentioned above. Check to ensure the "cut off" corner matches up with the cut off corner in the ECU AND that the chip is full snapped into place. Also -- when you install a new chip you MUST turn your ignition to ACC/ON for 2 - 3 minutes before you start the car.

Also, GIAC chips have the carrier that they sit in. That translates/deencrypts the program for the ECU. Mine didnt run without that in. runs pissa (lil boston reference) now http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

There were two ECU 'letter' codes for '97.
Some were '259K' and others were '259AA'.
The '96 to early '97 VR6's were mostly 'K'. Drivers Edition and late model '97 VR6's were 'AA'.
You need to make sure the chip you bought is compatible with the ECU you have. Your Garrett chip probably isn't bad.

My 97 is a 259 AA, and I told the place I bought it from that it was an AA ECU. On the chip itself, there's some writing on it that's mostly indistinguishable, but I can see "AA" on it... damn this whole thing sucks http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
