What's up everyone,
It seems that nobody has a problem that some other A3 owner hasn't had before, so maybe someone can give me a hand with this one.
To no surprise, my A3 GTi is having some minor problems (my Passat was a nightmare), and this time it's the clutch. I was sitting in stop and go for about 45 minutes the other day waiting to get on the George Washington, and my clutch felt like something inside it popped/cracked. The clutch action used to be quiet, and with a certain amount of pressure. After I heard the pop/crack, the pressure has remained the same (thank God), but now there's this grinding type noise every time I press the clutch. The noise sounds like two pieces of plastic grinding against each other, and the pedal feels like it's grinding when I press it. I asked my mechanic about it over the phone (I'm a college student and my mechanic is in my hometown), and he said that if the pressure's fine, then I shouldn't worry about it too much. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem, and what were thre results/repercussions? I know my mechanic told me not to worry, but he says that to me a lot because he doesn't like to get me worried (he knows how much I love the car). So if anyone knows what I'm talking about, can I get your input?
Also, I've been noticing that most people tend to say that dub's are fairly reliable cars. This GTi is my second VW, and I have to say the reliability is only so-so. Like I said, my Passat was a nightmare, and it wasn't a junker or a salvage or anything (bought it from my cousin). The GTi is a little better, but I'm still having little problems here and there (sensors don't work right, lights have a mind of their own somtimes). I realize I'm comparing my experience with my mother's cars (two Honda's), so is my frame of reference just bad? Or am I just a sucker?
Anyway, any help is appreciated, thanks for reading.
Ed.
