I just bought the alluminum OEM shift knob from VW and I've managed to take the factory knob off and also managed to take the factory shift boot off of the factory knob as well.
Does anybody know how to "recycle" the factory boot with the new alluminum knob?

The "two easy steps" (2 pics, no words) of swapping shift knobs provided are somewhat lacking to say the least
Fortunately roadsleeper's "shift knob swap" instructions saved me, but even he was stumped on this little step as his boot was already on the new knob he was putting on.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Re: HELP!!! need help installing shift boot (kos29)

Try this:
Turn the boot inside out
Put it on the shaft upside-down
Use a tie wrap or pipe clamp around the boot
Install new knob.
You could also look into getting an SCR Adapter. Or maybe you can mate the boot to the knob the way the stock one is done?
HTH, good luck! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
