I've been thinking about getting rid of my 01 GTI VR6 for an Audi A4 1.8T. I think the 1.8T engine is great and the added bonus of quattro makes it that much better. I cant afford to a brand new A4 or even a 2001. I'm basically looking at the 97 to possibly 2000. But I know that the interiors had gotten revamped just about every year. Basically what I'm asking for is pics of the dash from Audi A4s from 97 to 2000. I would like to see the guage cluster and the radio and climate controls. Thanks in advance for your help.

The 1.8T quattro, chipped even, still lacks great power. Handling is superior however. I have owned 2 VW's with 1.8t's and an Audi quattro. The '99 Passat sedan and the A4 were chipped the same way, (about 205-210hp) and my current 1.8t GTI 180hp is stock. The front drivers are definitely quicker, but the A4 is much more controlled. My current VW GTI is substantially quicker than the quattro, (I think it's the lack of weight in a small package). I just drove the new 3.0 quattro 6 speed. It's got the power. I miss the great handling of the A4 quattro, so I am going back for the A4 soon. All great cars though, good luck.

Come on your not comparing like with like. I got rid of my "chipped" Gti simply because of all the trouble it was causing me.My previous car was a 93 Trans Am after which I swore I would never buy used again, until the GTI that is!
I really don't think you can compare the fairly basic nature of a VW to the overall feel of an Audi.

I just traded my 01 GTI GLX VR6 yesterday for 02 Audi A4 1.8T. I leased the A4 so my payments aren't that bad. It is a great car and I don't regret what I did so far. The GTI was unreliable and made too many noises. The Audi is more refined. It may take me a little while to get used to the turbo engine. Go for the A4!

Unless you need a quattro, keep the GTI VR6. I am glad I bought my A4 used because it seems to slow for a car over $30,000 and parts are a tons of $$$. But they do handle real good and was a blast in the snow.
