Re: Help with gauge wiring! (VW-BMW)

the sender can go on your oil filter flange, replace one of the two factory senders.
G is for your new gauge signal wire.
WK is for the factory sender wire, to keep the buzzer and oil light off.
However, I discovered that the new sender might not get along with the factory gauge in the car, and you might have the oil light come on either above or below 2000RPM, the cutoff point for either pressure switch.
If thats the case, ground the factory wire, and your oil light and buzzer should turn off. Not like you'll be needing it again now that you have an active oil pressure gauge.
and oil temp should be located on the back of the head for a 16v, not sure where it would be on an 8v though.

Re: Help with gauge wiring! (SauerKraut)

the temp sender would go into the blank on the oil filter flange.
I've installed the same oil pressure sender into my 8v, unfortunately it did not work with my idiot light. I do want to use a T-fitting to fit both the original idiot light switch and the oil pressure sender, anyone know where I can get a T-fitting locally?

do you have a picture of this? I've never seen a blank on the filter flange. Do you mean where the stock pressure sensor is now?
I'd like to put the pressure sensor on the top of the engine to know my minimum pressure. What is this???: (where the red arrow is)

Just above the pressure switch there's a plug with a hex head on it, undo it and the new sensor would be mounted there. this is on the oil filter flange..

red arrow points to your idiot light(low pressure warning) switch.

Re: Help with gauge wiring! (Batan)

Batan:
The nut has something stamped on each side:
1 "0-5 bar"
2 "0.3+0.15 bar"
3 "30/80"
4 "8.84"
5 VW-Audi logos
6 Part number for the sender: 035 919 561

Man you are a huge help. Ok, can I take out that low pressure warning switch and put the temp sender there?
The oil pressure gauge should be at the top of the engine - maybe that's why your buzzer didn't work with the pressure sender, maybe the sender is supposed to replace the top pressure switch as opposed to the bottom?

you can try. That's what i did a few weeks ago but the idiot light kept flashing(idiot light wire connected to WK terminal), it was mounted at the red arrow like you mentioned
. So i just stuck the switch back on. The gauge worked fine though.

The oil pressure sender is supposed to be mounted on the side of the head.

Re: Help with gauge wiring! (vwtoys)

1.) I need a picture of an oil temp sender because evidently I didn't get one. I bought all of this as a package.

2.) On the gauges, what are the brown wires for and what are the blue/gray stripe wires for? There is also one black wire hanging out I assuming is a ground. I'm also assuming the blue wire goes to the G on the pressure sensor and the green wire goes to somewhere on the temp sender.
3.) Where is the stock oil pressure warning buzzer at in case I have to yank it?

a rabbit convertible and some audi's would have the senders. The one in the pic is longer than the factory one, just imagine the same part without the unthreaded portion on the bottom.
and it's a pretty small one, about 3/8" diameter and less than 1" long.
if you look at the gauges on the back it clearly states G, +, and ground, so just trace which wire goes where. + goes to ign on, G to the senders and ground to somewhere on the chassis.

The oil temp sender is on top of the filter flange on audis that have the gauges. IIRC it is a green and black wire going to it and you need an open end wrench to get it out.
As for where the senders go. Pressure goes where you drew that arrow. Temp goes on the filter flange.

Thanks a bunch
http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Is all that on the pressure sender? So, you did not get the temperature sender?

I had the same problem with the sender and the idiot light...no idea on the gauges yet for me, because I was just trying to do the under-the-hood stuff while I was under there anyhow (damn dirty ISV). So now I'm looking for a t-fitting, too...it's M10x1, I think, but that doesn't help much at my FLAPS...

Re: Help with gauge wiring! (sparty)

So the conclusion is:
1. Oil temp - top of the filter flange where the unused spot with hex bolt on it is
2. Oil pressure - side of the head where the idiot light sensor is
3. idiot light will probobly act funny used with the dual pole sender and we don't know if the T-fitting exist

Correct?

Yes on 1, 2, and the first hafl of 3. However, I'm pretty darn sure the T-fittings exist; I've even seen them in some gauge packages. I just can't find any sold individually (or locally, which would be even better)

Isn't this something that should be available at the local hardware store?
Where is the warning buzzer located in the dash?
