Hey I'm going in to the dealer today and I wanted to get that patch wire so I could enable my rear fogs from my Euroswitch. Anyone know the part #? I checked http://www.rawk.com/gti/rearfog but their server's down right now.
Also, I'm having a heck of a time disabling my DRLs. I tried taping the TFL pin, and I've done it 9 ways til sunday and somehow the socket keeps ripping right through the tape and making a connection. I also tried just bending the pin flat against the inside of the switch but that didn't work either. Is there any way to just remove that socket from the connector? I don't want to cut the wire because I'll probably end up enabling it in the future (when I sell the car). Plus, I'm not even too sure that the TFL pin is the offending one, anyway...
Thanks

I think if you have some super small screwdrivers that you can push the prong which holds that pin in, and it should slide out the back of the harness with no problem. I haven't had any problems with taping it off though, which kind of tape did you use?

Just regular black electrical tape, nothing special. First I tried taping around the pin, like a hotdog bun, but that didn't work becase the socket just bunched the tape up at the bottom of the pin. Then I tried the way Bora_WE did it on his site (btw, thanks bora_we!) where he just took the piece and kind of folded the tape like a taco (can you tell it's almost lunchtime?) over the long end of the pin. That didn't work either and when I checked the connector there were a couple of small holes in the tape from the socket. I tried it a couple more times being extra careful but I couldn't get the socket on without ripping the tape.
I would have thought that bending the pin out of the way would work too -- I have no idea how it made contact with the socket because it was bent totally flat.

that's really odd, are you sure it's the tfl pin you bent down?
I did the "taco" style tape and it worked on the first shot. it did take a pair of tweezers to squeeze the tape onto the pin though.

Yeah dead sure. The pin map is the same for the Euroswitch and for the OEM switch, right? That's one thing I didn't check. Like maybe the TFL pin on my 02 OEM switch is in a different place than the one on the Euroswitch. But I was definitely mangling that TFL pin on the Euroswitch. I don't see why they would remap that pin, but oh well
Nobody knows that part number, offhand?

That really is weird.
<scratches head>
I'd see if you can pop the pin out using a little flathead screwdriver or needlenose pliers or something similar.

Arright, I got rid of 'em. The socket was set a bit tighter than the other ones so I stuck a small flat screwdriver in there and spaced the pins a bit further apart. Used the tape and it worked like a charm. Thanks guys.

I'm almost positive you lose some other things when you pull the relay, like the little "BRAKE" indicator in the speedo whent the e-brake is on.
That's really weird, I disabled mine easily with tape on the first try.
