Help with throttle body

540 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  keefebro
My girlfriends old body 99 jetta 2.0 standard suddenly started cutting out at about 3grand not going faster then 15 without cutting out and coming back if the clutch was punched, suddenly started idling like a diesel, and vibrates a little, the engine codes read p0103 and p1580.
Based on my readings online this could be a dirty throttle body, or a clogged cat.
I know these are simple things to check, I'm looking for a DIY on how to clean the throttle body on this make and model.
If anybody has any experience with these codes they seem to be common when the jetta starts to **** itself in this fashion, I would love to hear what your problem actually was.
It recently died and I was unable to kick start it down steep hills, the guy who towed it home tried to jumpstart it and accidentally hooked up black to red and red to black for about ten seconds, related?
HELP!!

easiest way to find out grab a scanner clear the codes and try to drive it if it still boggs then you know it wasnt in limp mode

clean the throttle body with o2 sensor safe throttle cleaner and clean the MAF with crc MAF cleaner and try that out

You need to check the voltage going to the battery from the alternator.
Either your battery is failing, our your voltage from the alternator to the battery is faulty.

this might have fried your Battery, alternator, wiring in-between, or even ECU. Start w/ the easy one and work up.
Batt-> Alternator->ECU

Re: FV-QR (autotragik b3attlewagen)

you might need to do a throttle body relearn since you had your battery disconnected. My car did the same bogging out thing. Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so, reconnect it.
Turn the key to the acc spot so your dash lights come on,
Leave it there for like 3 minutes, close hood and drive
good luck http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
