I just bought a 2000 Audi TT 1.8T and I would love to chip it. I am deathly afraid of hurting my engine internals, and more specifically, my piston RINGS. Has anyone ever had a serious failure when using a chip on your 1.8T. If so which one did you use. Also which chips have given you great reliability and power. Thanks a million

depends on how you drive your car. If you're always baggin on it, then yeah reliability may be decreased. If you only stomp on it for the occasional merge, pass, ...ie. less than 2% of the time, then I wouldn't be too concerned with reliability. This also assumes you warm up your engine before stomping on it, and let it cool off after a hard run (oh, and don't forget the synthetic oil
).
As far as which chip is the best, do a search

Brands include APR, REVO, Upsolute, GIAC and Neuspeed...each one has their own quirks.
Personally, I've got Upsolute and have had no problems with it whatsoever over the past 2 years.

Chipped her at 2K, now at 38K Chipped miles with no negative effects yet from the extra power. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Think of it as making it the way VW should have made it in the first place!

If the factory made our cars this way, how much fun would it be trying to find more modifications? It's like the neverending search for more power.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!
If people have run 300 wheel hp with larger aftermarket turbo i doubt what the gay ko3sport can churn out is going to hurt anything. Ive been chiped for 15k on my 03 no worries.

LOL!!
that is the funniest thing ive seen in a long time on the tex
id say go with something that you have the most adjustability with, such as APR, GIAC and REVO, the flash loader and 'home tuner' or what not that GIAC is coming out with soon, looks pretty nice. I personally like/have apr's vtune the best, but my mind might change when i see what giac has come up with

Re: HEY ALL YOU CHIPPED!! How reliable is a chipped engine? (audi_2nr)

MY '99 Passat was chipped at 20k, now at 134k with almost all city driving with a heavy right foot. I've been through 6-8 sets of tires (can't remember) 1 timing belt tensioner at 82k (warranty covered), 1 electronic distributor thingy at 125k, 1 set of front rotors (still have original rears), have set cruise at 100+ for more than an hour at times, and people still compliment the car after I wash it.
I'll put a big turbo on this old motor sometime soon with no hesitation. My last 1.8 na engine had factory compression specs at 175,000 miles. Good solid blocks.
APR for 114,000 miles and still runnign very strong.
