Hey Guys, i want more power out of my 105hp 1.6 litre MKIV, any ideas?

As topic states really.
I am bringing my car over for a year, and the power is rather crap, so i wanna know if you guys have got any smart ideas for me.
Keep in mind i do not want to spend more than $1500 and labour is free for me, as i do it with my dad's mate, who is a mechanic.
The car is a 16v 105 hp, 1.6 litre engine, that is currently stock.

sorry mate no shortcuts here.Those punny engines are good for fuel economy but other than increasing displacement there isn't much you can do. I bought a 95 Golf 3 GL in Greece with the 1.4 60Hp

. Great mileage but sucked in performance.
