Hey, those don't belong in a Mk3!!!

It was a busy weekend for me and some good friends that helped out.
I decided to undertake the project of installing Mk4 GTI seats in my Jetta. Since I'd seen it in pictures, I knew it could be done. I really liked my friend's GTI seats... so it only seemed logical.

I did all of the modification to the seats and fabricated the needed parts... I called upon a friend for the welding (Thanks Trevor!).
Here's a couple pics of the progress:

Once the seats were in, installing Schroth Autocontrols was a piece of cake!

Thanks to Trevor, Matt, Kevin, Dave, and Mike for assistance, food, moral support, etc.

Can you take some pictures of how you mounted them? What did you do to make the rear seats latch?

Re: Hey, those don't belong in a Mk3!!! (98JettaGT)

I heard it was a bad idea to put in racing belts without a rollcage. Anyone else ever heard of this? I think the reasoning behind it is that in the event of a rollover, the belt won't stop you from having your head crushed against the roof. Anyone have any comments on this?
Re: Hey, those don't belong in a Mk3!!! (Gelly)

It is, and it isn't. I definitely would not take a car on an open roadcourse with 4+ point belts and no rollover protection. I wouldn't daily drive like that, either. In a reasonably safe venue like autocrossing, they could be very handy to keep your body in place.
