I wanted to convert to HID lamps. Any good articles on the net to help accomplish this? What are our options when it comes to driving lamps for th TDI Jetta's?
thanks

Re: HID Lamps (Phynix)

Moved to the Lighting forum.
The best HID upgrade for the Jetta would be the OEM Bosch HID upgrade. Costs around $1300 US but the improvement is totally day and night.
Retrofit kits are generally not recommended as factory halogen reflectors weren't designed for HIDs.

Not only are the halogen reflectors not designed for HID's but don't you lose your high beams on the jetta lights when converting to HID?
That would make your car legal twice over....
Even though you won't ever want to use your high beams you will never pass inspection again (at least not in PA or Jersey)...

Oh yea, saw that.
Man, this forum is like an autolamps-online.com commercial.
Nick has done his marketing homework.

Don't see 9007 in there for the DOT/SAE US spec lights, do you?

There is a reason for that!

As I know this is one of the few if not THE ONLY place where you will get professional support both BEFORE and AFTER you buy form them!
All I can say is don't take MY word for it, find out for yourself!

Cullen,
I do take your word (and everybody elses) for it in regards to autolamps-online.com .
I have heard many good things and nothing negative.
Actually, I emailed them regarding the FET solid state harness well over a week ago but no answer back. No big deal. If I were to order ballasts or bulbs and had a couple days to get them shipped I would go with them hands down!
But I've completed my HID mission and don't plan on changing anything I've done with my lamps for a long time. Everything from now on is just maintenance...
Thanks Cullen,
