Re: High Beams and Fog Lights Together (Please Help)! (WindsorBlueakapurple)

It is illegal to run both in many places. I do know it can be done, but it is obnoxious and pointless. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

quote:

You need to buy the euro headlight switch. It allows you to do what you want to do. I think you can find one at http://www.parts4vws.com. I think it's only like $80 or something.

Or you can just replace the foglight jumper with a relay. $5. It isn't really necessary though. Unless you've got your fog lights aimed as driving lights.

fog lights are for fog, and are to be aimed low. high beams are not for fog, infact they reflect rather nicely off fog. i dont see a point in running both at once.

I am aware that high beams are dangerous in fog. I was just saying that it would be possible to use a relay to keep the fogs on as driving lights (aimed lower) with the high beams on. This could help with illuminating the sides of the road near the car for those with poor stock lighting.

Re: High Beams and Fog Lights Together (Jetta97GT)

I do realize that foglights are for fog but when you have stock lighting turning on the foglights makes it easier to see by far, fog or no fog. And if i could get the foglights and high beams on at the same without holding the high beams in, I could have both hands on the wheel and focus more on driving. Another thing, I never do this if cars are around for obvious reasons.

Exactly... I would just replace the fog light jumper with a relay then. The panel is under the driver's side dash. The jumpers to be replaced are on the bottom row of relays, three in from the right side.

Get the jumper from potter and the switch. Your highs, lows, and fogs will all be on at once if you turn the highs on....
Great on a clear night. But not as usefull if you upgrade your lighting (which I will do some day)...

I've heard (don't know if this is true or not) that having your fogs on while the high beams are on is a bad idea, because it actually hinders the eyes' ability to focus on objects further down the road. I'm usually of the opinion that if VW did something, they did it for a reason, and don't see any real reason to have fogs on with high beams (although I don't have a Mk3 and the lighting in my 90 is great).
