High performance Motor mounts....

Does anybody know of any company that makes stiffer, harder, better mounts for the MKII cars. Specifically, I am looking for my 91 GTI 8v. Thanks!

this has been covered at least twenty tiems since youve been on the board. Put at least a little effort into finding an answer

Can't find a place that sources VWM mounts.

Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (john green)

I'm gonna try filling my hydraulic mounts with liquid polyurethane. I've found a place that sells it locally. I might be doing it next week as it is spring break, aka fix the dub week. I'm not sure what weight to use, it comes in 60A, 80A, and 90A. I know the 90A is WAY
to stiff and that the 60A will probably be to soft so I guess I'll use the 80A. Hopes that helps.

last I heard everyone was on backorder for the vwms mounts... I got mine from Velocity but apparently thats a dead end now. try autotech or techtonics...
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (2035cc16v)

Oh and swollen VWMS mounts are 85-90 durometer if that helps you any
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (2035cc16v)

On the phone with Roger at Autotech...no dice....VWMS is hard to come by.
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (john green)

I think EIP makes a MKII front mount? maybe it's Eurotech? I also heard the VWMS mounts were NLA.
There's a guy here in So Cal making solid (as in solid metal I think) motor mounts.

EIP makes a solid alum one. I don't know. I will just keep the search going...thanks for the input.
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (john green)

Had 'em, went back to full stock (rubber front, not hydro) and fast. The VWMS mounts rattled the keys against the column. rattled the sunroof, rattled my teeth against my jaw - did I mention that they were stiff? May as well have bolted the [email protected] engine to my spine.
Oh - yes, they made the car shift GREAT and the power transfer was marginally better. But they were stiff - really, unbearable-on-the-street, shake the car to pieces stiff. (yes, they were installed correctly, etc.)
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (john green)

Here is a poly filled passenger side mount from a scirocco. If you know what one regularly looks like, then you know whats going on. The guy used 3m Window Weld, or something like that. There are some 2-part poly mixes that you can get too, but I dont know where from.

I dont know if this pic works so here the link,

JC whitney sells a poly insert for the rear mount for about $9. other people sell them too, i just dont know who. powerflex offers a poly insert for the front motor mount (older rubber style), which completely replaces the rubber. you can contact spa technique they distribute powerflex in the US. do a search for spa AND powerflex to get their number.

Hmmmm...interesting. Thanks for the input.
Jetta2dr...I will ask my body man about that stuff. Thanks...
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (john green)

John: Don't mean to be watering on your campfire or trying to talk you out of the mod, just to make you aware of the downside to stiff motor mounts, esp. with a VW engine. The performance is definitely a bit better, no engine rock and solid-as-anything shifting, but the downside is vibration at idle and a louder car overall, even at highway speeds. This mod needs to be done with careful up-front consideration of the downside - if you're making an autoX or show car that doesn't see long highway miles, great, you'll love it. If you're making a daily driver or take a lot of trips, you may be disappointed at the higher level of noise and vibration. It's like running open or free flow exhausts - for around town they're great and sound good, for long trips they can get rather tiresome - and the engine mounts don't really add "motor music", just vibration. One man's opinion, to be sure. Good luck with your project!
Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (dixonL2)

THKS. True...very true. I am in contact with somebody about a Vibratec front mount over at TSR performance. I am trying to figure out if there is an NA supplier/distributor.
apparently there is not. I am a bit skeptical about buying this mount...has anybody ever heard of it and/or used it?

Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (john green)

http://www.newdimensions.com sells the vibratecnic mounts. I have the front one on my car. It is comparable to the vwms mount. Lots of vibrations, little engine movement.
check em out.

Ya know what we need? Adjustable engine mounts!

Seriously, wouldn't it be great to throw a little lever in the engine bay and go from rigid to stock cushiony or back? Gotta be some way to control the dampening provided by the front mount with tension...

Heh...and then I woke up

Some of the really cool ideas we oughta design ourselves..who want's to make an adjustable mount?

Re: High performance Motor mounts.... (MyGTI)

thank you. I hear that these mounts make the change in your ashtray jump ~ 1"
Seriously, though. I think that the rear mount is compressed the most during accel and the front more so on decel. Therefore, I might be interested in doing just a rear mount. Does anybody out here run one?
