It also tops out at about 143mph, gearing wise, unless you start going into redline.

High RPM's
I have a 2002 Jetta GLS 2.0 with a manual tranny. When driving on the freeway at ~75 mph in 5th gear, my RPM's are about 3500. This seems kind of high to me. Is this engine, tranny, setup just geared to rev high? It seems like the gears are short between shifts. It almost seems like it needs an overdrive 6th gear for crusing on the freeway.

Did you actually hit 143mph? I seriously doubt that little engine could hit 143.
