I have an OBDI 2.0 that has the silencer on the idle air control tube and I heard a hissing sound from it this afternoon when I was checking under the hood. I moved my hand around until I pinpointed that it was coming from there. If i hold my hand around the bottom of it on one of the little pegs on the bottom of the thing it stops hissing. Is this normal or is mine cracked and I just havent found it yet ? Somebody let me know
Thanks

Re: Hissing from the box on the idle air control tube (veedublvr)

If you mean one of those little things on the side of the airbox, there should be a small rubber elbow connected to both with a vacuum line to it. It activates the flap in the bottom of the airbox when cold and hot. If that's what you mean...

No, on the top of the intake theres a cylindrical motor controlling IAC, with two tubes coming out of it, one to the intake and the other to a black canister, from there the tube goes back to the intake where it attaches. The back box is hissing on the bottom side

I don't think that it should hiss. Can you tell if it is blowing air out or sucking air in? All the IAC does is bypass the butterfly when it is closed thus allowing the engine to stay alive and stay at a certain idle RPM. The black plastic part deadens the sound from the motor. So if your idle is ok then you may not have to worry about it. If your idle is jumping around then you may want to take a closer look. If the IAC itself is faulty then you could conceivably have air bypassing the MAF sensor and that could confuse the ECU. If you are sure it's just the plastic part then try to seal it and that should take care of things. Also, if it's only the plastic part leaking then the Iac should otherwise function as it should.
Here is a pics of a fellow vortexer's engine bay.

There is a small nipple on the plastic part of the IAC unit. If that is broken off of yours then that may be the culprit. Good luck

Yes it is sucking air in, the idle is kinda jumpy ,but that may be due to the cam and head porting though, IAC control valve checks out fine. The "nipple" is there still, its leaking from the underside of it somewhere. Im gonna pull it out and check to see if its cracked. So it should make any hissing then ?? correct ?
