Hi all,
I recently took on a '88 Prelude Si (2.0 16v) & beat him by about 3 car lengths from standing start to about 90mph. We repeated this several times. He went away & had his car dyno tuned and gained an extra 4hp. Came back and I still beat him by around 2-3 car lengths. He is making close to 100hp at the wheels and I am making 81hp. Before studying these power figures remember that I am at an altitude of 5000feet where we lose approx. 20% power - So at sea level he has probably around 120hp and me 96hp.
Right. Now he has lined me up against a Honda/Acura Integra B16. What the hell is this? Hondas are pretty rare in Zimbabwe - so I don't know too much about them. I guess this Integra is probably a late 80's early 90's model. Is this a 1600 Vtec? How quick are they??
My car is pretty quick off the line thanks to a 10% shorter final drive but up and running not too great. It is a miracle I held off the Prelude in 4th. I have recently installed a 276 CAM which doesn't produce any more power than my 270 but at least holds the power a little longer so my car keeps pulling until I change at 6700rpm.
Other recent conquests are a BMW 328i Auto (Easy!), Mercedes E240 (Easy!) but got my butt kicked by a little Toyota Starlet Turbo!
Help me out guys.... Am I going to lose?? Any facts/figures/experiences on the B16 will be appreciated.
Cheers
Antony

Re: Honda Integra vs GTI 8v (FlyGTI_A2)

I raced a perlude 2.0 si (140 hp in Canada) and he beat me bad. My engine produces 101 hp at the wheel and 110lb torque.
The 2.0 Si are same weight as a A2 but they got more power than a 8v. The Canadian versions have a very short gear box, the car tops at 187 km/h at 6500 rpm in fifth gear.
My friend rocco 8v also lost bad to same perlude 2.0. their 0-60 time is around 7.8 sec.
I am surprised you beat him!! you may have raced the older versions >1988 they were 2.0 but were very slow 11.8 sec -0-60

Re: Honda Integra vs GTI 8v (kickster)

The Prelude I diced whas a direct Japanese import. It has a pretty long gearbox but believe me it is not slow. The equivalent South African Si of the same year had the long box but had a 0-62mph time of around 8 seconds.
If you want to make your car quicker I can highly recommend shortening the final drive. Its like an extra 20hp for robot-to-robot style races. Simple & cheap.
Economy suffers of course but you can't have your cake and eat it. More fun to eat Hondas!!

So any info on the B16??
Ciao

The Honda motor B16C is a DOHC 160hp motor. It is equipped in all Honda Civic Si's (USA) and Honda Del Sol's (USA). Depending on year. If it's an older model Si motor (-<1998) then they will have about 140hp. The newer Si motors put down around 130whp so be careful.

I used to race my cousin's Integra all the time. It was an early 90's model with 1.8L 16v non-VTEC engine rated for 140hp. He had an intake and exhaust. My Golf was a 1.8L 8v with 272 cam, chip & exhaust. We were always dead even until 4th gear where he would begin to creep away.

Re: Honda Integra vs GTI 8v (A2 VW)

OK.
In summary you're saying I'm gonna get my arse kicked?

I have browsed some Honda Sites and they are talking 15's 1/4s for the B16 Civics. I guess the Integra is heavier but guess it will run high 15s or less.

BUMMER!!

Re: Honda Integra vs GTI 8v (VeeDubClub82)

Hi,
Yeah losing to a Honda is pretty sad! Anyways - I haven't seen that Integra since my last post. Well when I meet him you will all be the first to know what happened.

Ciao
