I have a pain in the xxxx problem with my 1997 Passat 1.8T. Ever since new I have been complaining about horrible interference on AM with the ignition (i.e. without even the engine on). It is a horrible screaching sound which winds down when I switch the ignition off ending in a stutter. I have a top of the range Blaupunkt which I took out of my previous MK3 Golf (which also had roof aerial) so I know the radio works fine. The garage took it out a few times and played around - the aerial adapter is there, put a power supply direct from the battery etc. all to no avail. Bizarre!
Any ideas?

Re: Horrible interference on AM with ignition on (williamsml)

Does your antenna adaptor have a power lead? If it doesn't, or if its not hooked up to the blue wire on your Blau, or if the blue wire is inop (rare but possible) there's your problem. The antenna needs to be turned on to work, as it has no ground plane like a regular antenna.
