Wassup folks. I'm new here but I've been around Sonics for years with all kinds of cars. One of 'em was a ' 98 Jetta VR6. I'm thinking of getting an '03 GTI VR6. Anybody that knows both the 12v & the 24v care to comment on the differences I might expect? Better or worse? I'd try test driving but I can't find a 24v at any of the VW lots! Much Mahalos!
And yes, I know the 1.8T will kick arse, but I don't think I want to go into too many power mods...I think.
Well maybe...

Re: How are the 24v VR6's? ([email protected])

Well the only thing I've seen is a '03 GTI VR6 with manual @ the tracks running 15.3 15.4's @ 91/92mph not sure what kinda skill the driver had but looked quick. Esp when running a 15.9
Said he had just picked it up and wanted "baseline runs" before modding power was avail everywhere in the range.
And you probable won't find any until the Dock worker strike in Cali clears up.

Re: How are the 24v VR6's? (SamuraiJack)

i hear good and bad about these....
sure, the 24v is gonna look smoother than the 12v, and feel better. but at the same time, the +25hp gain might not be worth the extra $$$.

1.8T seems to be the motor of choice thesedays. i'm still split on what i would get, if i had the $ for it. there's something about the sound of the VR6 exhaust that makes me tingly

SamuraiJack, yes the strike doesn't help the wait...word has it that only a few VR6's are in transit anyways, and then they'll start up '03 production again at the end of the year.

III, yeah, the purrrrr of a healthy VR6 makes me feel YOUNG AGAIN!

And yes, it's Russell...

I'm sooo confused...I think I may go 1.8T after long talks with Eric & the guys at Sonic. Especially after the WRX...once you've been BLOWN
a regular SUCK just don't do it!

Re: How are the 24v VR6's? (crazy4vws)

15.4 is kinda slow for a 24v I think. I ran my 12v GTI with just a cone filter and my sub box left in and hit [email protected] and could have run faster with better tires. On other runs I was consistantly hitting 92-93 mph trap speeds, so with that extra hp, the 24v should be running at least 15.1 imo.
