So how are the rear badges attached on the Mark IV GTI? Holes, double stick tape?

They are attached with double sided adhesive.

yup...just slide floss behind it and pull gently....

you might want to use a hairdryer(about 30 seconds should do it) to warm them up first. Take as much of the glue off as you can with your fingernail. Then use Goopoff or WD40 to remove the rest.

yes double sided tape is what it is...
Good luck at peeling off the remaining sticker once you have the badge off.

You can use 3M adhesive remover (no harm to the finish) or WD40... Remember to re-wax AFTER the emblems are replace (if they are replaced)... Do not use a silicone-based cleaner or the emblem replacements (aftermarket) will not stick as well...
