How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT?

572 Views 19 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  The AuDUBot
Ok, first off, I did do a search, just couldn't find what I needed. Onto the problem...I got a Viper alarm installed the other day and I had my HKS TurboTimer turned off because I didn't want some idiot leaving it in gear. Anyway, they got everything installed just fine (not knowing about the TT). So when I got home I turned on the TT, took out the key and got out. I go to arm the alarm and no such luck. Turns out it won't arm until the engine is off, which totally defeats the purpose of having the TT. So I need to know how to take care of this, or what to tell the shop so they can take care of it. Thanks guys.
Matt

are there any other sites with CLEAR directions plus pics of a TT install on a GTI 1.8T? other than that swankmonkey site? I felt that those directions were confusing.....

ya the car still thinks the key is in the ignition so the remotes won't work.
You'll have to use the key in the door method. But that might not activate the alarm only lock the doors.
You should have told them about the TT. See if you can bring it back and have it redone.

Yea I'm taking it back sometime this week. They had it set so only the driver side door unlocks when the alarm is disarmed, so I have to take it back for that anyway. I agree with that monkey site being confusing.

That should be a simple programming feature on the Viper alarm. If you let me know which Viper alarm you have then I'll be able to tell you how to program it.
The feature is called armed while driving, or AWD. If you or your installer programs the alarm to have this feature on then, your alarm will arm even though your turbo timer is on.

It's the Viper 300ESP.

Ok, here's the sequence to program that feature on your alarm.
First, know where your valet button is (the small black button that you use just in case you lose your remote.)
1. Open the driver's door and leave it open.
2. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to run (the key position just before you crank it) and then turn the key back to off.
3. Press and HOLD the Valet button until your siren beeps once. Release the valet button.
4. Now you have to press the Valet button 10 times, HOLD down the Valet button on the 10th time. Your siren should now chirp 9 times.
5. Now while still HOLDing the valet button down, press the lock button or button 1 on your remote.
6. Release the valet button, turn the key to run and then back off again. The siren should let out a short whail letting you know that you exited the programming menu.
7. Test it out. Start the car and have the TT running. Close all your doors and try to arm you alarm. It should arm now.
Good luck, it sounds harder than it actually is and it should only take you less than 5 minutes to program this feature.

Now if I only knew where the valet switch is. I read something about the volume of the siren being programmable also. Do you know how to make it louder?
Matt
Thank you very, very much BTW!

The siren isn't really programmable but, it's either 6 decibels quieter than a full out alarm volume or it's at full alarm volume at all times. The way to make it always stay at full volume is to look at the siren itself. It should have a small black wire in a loop, if the loop is cut then the siren is set at full volume. If the small black loop is there then it is set at the quieter volume.
When I install alarms, I usually just cut the loop off because if the customer wants to arm or disarm the alarm without the siren then there is a silent mode for that. I think that the louder the siren is the more attention it will attract to your car if it's getting messed with.

Yea that's what I was told, and it is cut, still not very loud though. I just went through your instructions 2x and got the 9 beeps and all that, but it still doesn't work. I started the car and tried to arm the alarm, but no such luck. I also turned on the TT and got out and then tried to arm it, still no such luck. Any other ideas? Another question, is there a programmable way to make both doors unlock when I disarm the alarm instead of just the driver side?

Re: How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT? (mbuxton)

Hmmm....try this start your car and run it for a minute and then try to arm the alarm with the car started. It should arm...let me know....
And yes, you can program the alarm to open both doors when you disarm (assuming that your installer hooked it up to the right door lock wire).
Here's the sequence for the door locks:
Step 1 and 2 are the same.
3. Hold down the Valet button until it beeps twice.
4. Release the button and push the button 9 times, holding it down on the ninth time. Siren should beep 8 times.
5. While HOLDing down the button, press the button 2 on your remote. You should hear 2 chirps.
Step 6 is the same.
This feature will unlock your driver's door first and then it will unlock your passenger's door a few secs later.
Let me know if the AWD works..
Re: How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT? (Romnkar)

I'll try that later. I'm assuming that when I arm the car and all the doors lock, then all the doors are wired to unlock with the above feature?
Matt
Re: How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT? (mbuxton)

Ok that didn't work either. They must have not hooked up that wire. As far as the arming while running thing goes...still no luck. I don't know.

Re: How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT? (mbuxton)

I'd have them look at your alarm. It should be able to arm while driving or with the ignition on regardless of the turbo timer or not.
As far as your doorlocks it should work on a double pulse. Which is the second feature I had you try. It's called double pulse unlock. It's what you need to have programmed to have all of the doors unlock when you disarm.
Have them re-check your doorlock connections.
One question, does your factory alarm work when you arm your alarm? Does it give you the 'meep' sound when you arm it?
Re: How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT? (Romnkar)

Yes the factory "meep" sound still sounds when the Viper is armed.
Matt
Re: How can I get my alarm to work w/ the TT? (mbuxton)

Well, it's gotta be something with the wires if it will not program. Go back to the shop and have them program the alarm with a bitwriter. That way you can be sure everything will work correctly.
Tell them you want the Armed While Driving feature on so, that you can arm your car while the TT is running.
Good Luck...

Ok well I appreciate your help.
