When I push down my clutch pedal, it makes a grinding fart noise. No its not my clutch. I know its the cable cause of where the sound is and the feeling under my foot. I've never adjusted one before, so if anyone has any range of how soon its gonna break let me know.

Re: How can you tell when your clutch cable is breaking? (VWsuperhero)

if you think its breaking, replace it.
less than $20 and 5 minutes, and you risk breaking the pedal cluster if you don't replace it.
pedal cluster replacement is apparantly a sucka of a thing to do, so you will want to prevent that at all costs.

mine snapped and i definitely did not have any warning. i was double clutch downshifting from 4th to 3rd and when i was in between neutral and 3rd when mine decided to let go. that was pretty exciting...

Re: How can you tell when your clutch cable is breaking? (Red Sled 138)

Actually, replacing the clutch cable on my 89 Jetta was the first mechanical
job that I had ever done on a car. My mechanic was too busy with other jobs
so he told me to do it.
It basically consists of taking off your old cable and feeding in a new one.
The cable on the tranny side is secured with a clip. Take the clip off and
pull it through the fire wall and the clutch pedal side is hooked on.
If you look at it, you can figure it out.

clutch cable is super easy. take off the underside of the dash on the driver's side. in the engine bay you can see where the clutch cable comes through on the drivers side and goes down to the clutch lever. like he said, just a clip or two holding it on. the clutch cable has a barrel adjuster so you can let slack out to make it easier to remove. just remove the old one put in the new one. while you are under the dash inside the car, check your pedal carriage carefully. mine went out and i had to dry-shift all the way home, 30 mins on the freeway. thank god i had a little practice with that just to experiment. when my pedal carriage broke the clutch pedal fell off so you want to know about this ahead of time. -josh

Had that happen once too. I was able to do a ghetto repair that lasted 3 weeks
I'm lazy
