How come the Mazda Miata gets no love among imports???

for a under 30,000 canadian MSRP, u can get a RWD roadster that's fun to drive, handle like a REAL sports car, have a nice revvy engine, competes in autoX/track events nicely, and looks good too (the 2002 model).
It doesnt' win drag races but it sure is the best tool to carve mountain roads and win road courses.
If they offered one in 2+2 coupe style, it'd be terror to the RSX and GTI, don't you think?

Unfortunately, one reason it's not too popular is because it's not one to win drag races http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif Some people ignorantly regard the Miata as bog-slow in a straight line

Bah! I think its great because it filters out all the wanna-bes. True Miata enthusiasts can always be found in your local autox. And besides, if a spoiler and a coffee can exhaust means love, then Id rather be where the Miata is.

My wife and I had a 2000 Miata and loved it. Man was it tight in the curves. IMHO, it's really the best driver's car under $25k.

A lot of people think it's a chick's car, a hairdresser's car, a gay man's car, etc. It's too cute for its own good.
That's OK - makes me feel more special when I'm in mine and doing this ->

Has anyone noticed that girls cars are cheap and guys cars are either muscle cars or something like a porsche? Pretty much all new VW's are immediatly grouped into the "chick car" catagory. Same goes for the Miata.

Yeah...u know what?? On second thoughts.....I kinda regret paying 31000 MSRP on my 2002 fully loaded GTI.
Why didn't i just get a miata????
With sports package (2000 cdn option over 27000 base price), i get a 6 speed, an LSD
, bilstein shocks, 16 inchers, a convertible top built on one of the best sorted FR chassis out there....and if i lay down $1600 more i get a hardtop for all seasons.
And also, I don't need to drive my friends to places anymore.

Only problem is when my mother comes visit. But then this is where Hertz comes to the rescue!!
A baby S2000 for this kind of money gets a BIG http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif in my books.
But who am I kidding. I needed the trunk.

You took the words right outta my mouth. I could barely scrape together the insurace money for mine as is. So I don't want the "import crowd" to drive it up even further. And to think I almost traded in my '96 for a 1999 si a couple of years ago. What was I thinking?! Don't get me wrong...the si is a great car but the "import lifestyle" or whatever it's called is just not for me

Miata is an amazing roadster. You are buying its docile handling dynamics instead of power in this little roadster. Its all about control over power. If you want power, an aftermarket forced induction kit will help it a lot.
You can't buy anything else that handles better than a Miata at this $$$. GTI, RSX, Celica..I don't think so.

Apparently you can get about the car up to 135 bhp and 125 ft lbs with just the addition of a 5 psi Greddy turbo, i.e., stock exhaust, stock everything. Not bad for a car that weighs a scant 2200 lbs.
Re: How come the Mazda Miata gets no love among imports??? (dmc)

Its too small. Most import guys are teenagers or 20 somethings. If I'm the typical 18 year old, I need room to haul friends and junk. Everytime I go out (if its not a date with my g/f), we take like 2 cars, and both of them are packed with 5 people. That's why my Accord (given to me by my parents) is such a nice car. I can fit 5 people AND their crap easily. But, if I had a Miata, there's only room for me and my girl. And then I'd never get to drive to anyplace with friends. Even if you get a Prelude or Integra, there's still seats in the back. Sure it sucks like hell to be back there, but the furthest we go is to the movie theater or something, and the longest trips are probably 30 minutes. Seriously, I would buy a Miata in a second. What's there not to love? RWD, cheap (the used ones are great deals), lots of fun. Its just way too small.

It decreases HP?
Stock Miata:
Horsepower, SAE net 142 @ 7000
Torque, SAE net 125 @ 5500
Re: How come the Mazda Miata gets no love among imports??? (matt007)

I thought bhp was the figure at the wheels? And SAE net is the flywheel number?
Re: How come the Mazda Miata gets no love among imports??? (Coolwhite Fox)

Just quoting Mazda website #s
Anyway, I read that the Greddy turbo produces [email protected]
Whee!

Even if you're not a teenager, it's too small for a lot of people. Anybody much bigger than 5'10' and 160 will feel like a sardine.

BHP is brake horsepower, as in engine brake, as in engine dynamometer. Taken at the flywheel. SAE net is just a standard as to how it's taken, e.g. with alternator, water pump, fan, etc (all accessories) operating.

In my opinion anyone who pans the Miata has neither driven one and has his/her head installed firmly in their rectal cavity.
Our 1990 is a blast at any speed. Slow? WHO THE HELL CARES?!?!? Put the top down, put some tunes on, and send those revs to the heavens! Take some corners, give it a touch of gas, and feel that rear end come about in a nice controlled drift.
I performed a few scheduled maintenence modifications...the shocks were gone, so I installed KYB adjustible shocks and plus-zero Dunlop Sp8000s. WOW! What a difference!
It isn't a chicks car. It is a sporting rollerskate for two, a car only a dedicated driver will appreciate.
ANd believe me, I count myself as one of its biggest fans.
