How cool! Guess what i saw on the freeway last night!

Me and my boyfriend were on the 60W going to the interchange 57S when this car merges on the freeway right in front of us. At first i thought it was a PT Cruiser due to its LED like lights in the back, until i saw Euro plates on it. My BF says, WTF is that??? So he downshifts and tries to catch up to this thing, which was going pretty fast. And much to our amazement, it was the CUTEST thing. We saw an Orange-splashed color SMART car! How cute! I don't know much about these things, but after watching an episode of Amazing Race, my impression were that these cars were pretty slow. BUT, it was doing like 90-100 speeds. It was funny, my BF owns an A4 and we were racing a SMART car. haha it was so funny. I decided to give him a thumbs up http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif and he honked back, it sounded like a beep actuallly. Well, we were neck and neck on the freeway, we were mostly trying to check out the car, and he probably thought we were racing. Oh well, we parted ways after hoping on the 91E. ok.. thanks for listening to my so exciting story.

looked like that but orange.

Very cool. I saw one in Switzerland a couple of years ago. They are only slightly over 8 feet long. You can park them perpendicular to the curb. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

My friend saw that exact car at the Spectrum a couple weeks back. Actually, it's funny, because the Smart is an especially special topic for me - I friggin love the thing. And better yet, I DROVE one a couple weeks ago at work! It was a Smart Cabrio, and no I can't divulge why it was here and who owns it.

Here's a pic (that's me in the driver's seat):

Neat, huh?

That thing look's kinda' scary to drive fast
It looks pretty cool, but I'd be kinda' hesitant to go freeway racing in that car

hehe, i actually saw one of those things on the road over the summer. [what a sucker]somebody bought one [/what a sucker]
on a similar note, on wednesday afternoon, i saw a blue skyline gtr going north on the 110 up near USC. we, as americans, definitely got screwed by nissan on that one...

That would be like driving a telephone booth on wheels
Hell, i'd be scared to hit the brakes real hard cause it
looks like it would do a somersault
When's the last time anyone saw a car with only 3 lugnuts? (Renault LeCar)

it sits in your lap...whenever you need to get out you just remove it and set it aside...or better yet, carry it around with you so noone can steal the car.

It's a rear engined car; the engine is located under the trunk floor, like a VW T1-T3 Transporter/Caravelle/Vanagon.

wow
Re: How cool! Guess what i saw on the freeway last night! (Black2k1Vr6)

anyone know the top speed on the thing???
Re: How cool! Guess what i saw on the freeway last night! (coolgirl)

Yes, it has a speed limiter. It's speed limited to 140kph, or about 87mph. Believe me, you really don't wanna go much faster than that in a Smart. However, there are several German tuners, like Brabus, that make horsepower upgrade kits. These kits often remove the speed limiter. Having driven a Smart, I can say that it would be damn scary going, say, 100mph in one!
They're designed to be the ultimate city car - small, nimble, easy to park - if you've ever been to Europe, you know that in big cities, the smaller the car, the better off you are.

when I lived in Detroit my friend who works at Chrysler in the Viper Design studio brought one of these home for the weekend and we drove it all around, the smart car is a blast.
I also used to work at Mercedes Benz Advanced Design in Irvine... they helped design the Smart Car!
woohoo!

Hey Jimmi - did you know Gerhart Steinle when you worked at the advanced design studio? I know him well - Prisma Design shares office space with my company.
