im @ 2500 and its like dark amber/guiness in color.just wondering if the cone filter
is gettin it done compared to the panel filters.

The dark amber color is normal. It shouldn't be black tar colored unless it's a TDI.

I would never know because I have to add every 2,000 miles. Especially if I drive in fast, freeway conditions for a lot of those miles. It uses about 1 quart every 500 miles above, say, 65 mph. Below that, barely uses anything.

If yu use a top quality synthtic (amsoil, Redline, Mobil one) it should last longer and stay a nice honey golden color, longer as well. Also consider a better filter, (Amsoil, Purolator Pure One, Mobil One)

Mine is still pretty gold lookin the last time I changed.
@ 20k I switched to Mobil1.. but I plan to go with LubeMoly (german sythetic) @ 25k.
