okay, so i accidentally posted with my sister's name. anyways, i have an '86 GTi and i got it with the new style knee bars. i was wondering if anyone knew where the bolts or screws are that keep it in place. i'm replacing my heater core so i have to take it out. any help is appreciated. thanks http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

There are several screws around the perimeter of the bar. They should be easy to find. You'll need to remove the center console too.

lift the boot off the CC and remove one screw underneath. Remove the ashtray and the two screws behind it. Then it's 4 large screws for the kneebar once you have the CC out. Two on each side at the end...very easy to find.

Screws are easy to find if some PO hasn't removed them already.

Mine was falling out, now I have to find some screws to put it back together. I'm thinking about just fabbing a small bracket for the fusepanel and keeping the extra leg room.

should save weight too.

Damn thing is very heavy. I have one in my room amongst my other parts fs, and it was heavy bringing it up here

yes, they are next to the rubber door seals that go around the openings on the doors. should be phillips but you have to remove the center counsel first.
