what do you mean by tax? Like customs when the item is inspected and crosses the border? That's an easy one...you DON'T want to pay anything.
Have the sender undermark the item's value or have them mark it as a "gift". and never, NEVER use UPS. Tell them to ship via regular mail USPS and you should be safe. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

If they are shipping UPS take your loss and try getting it elsewhere.
After paying the brokerage fees it will probably cost more than if you were to buy it here.
You can always send the person an email before the end of the auction and ask them if they will ship USPS instead. Lots of people are quite understanding when you tell them about the brokerage fees and will happily send it through the mail instead.

UPS is in the business of ripping new ones to everyone and then you are lucky if you even see the delivery.
FED ex is not bad...but Post office should be fine. marked as gift or not, the custom dept will open and if it is over a certain value they will nail you.
How much was the cd changer for?

most will ship via USPS if you ask instead of normal couriors cause its cheaper.
tell them to keep the difference on the shipping. might cost 1-10$ more for shipping, but will save 15-50% of the purchase price once the border gets a hold of it.
Gift dont normally work with UPS or FedEX. Normally only mail system

then you will pay $200cdn in brokerage fees. brokerage fees work out to be about 75% of the cost in US dollars but only in canadian money.
example:
package value $100usd.
brokerage fees, $75cdn.
never fails. i have invoices adding up $500 in brokerage fees that i plan on (someday) nailing UPS for. they hold your package hostage, and make you pay that money... or you don't get it!

The reverse works if you want to send stuff TO the US, just mark it as a 'gift' to avoid the brokerage fees for the buyer and it's usually cheaper for the shipper to send via Canada Post
