I know, I know there are tons of instructions out there but I can't get. Somebody please tell me something, a trick, something. I just don't get it.

Well I can't say this carries over to the 2002s, but as far as I know they're probably similar to older boots that just have this sort of elastic bottom. Try grabbing the boot towards the back of it and pull away from the stick.

It's a plastic frame.
Just shove the thing forward w/your thumbs and it'll flex and pop out.

yeah i never could see how all the instructions on here show how to push the boot ring. If you pry your fingers under the front of the boot ring and put a little pressure pushing forward it will pop right off...take a little more pressure then feels right but it will go...
