Re: how do you remove the ignition on a corrado (2nutz)
Look at the CCA website (Corrado Club of America) it mentions that you will have to drill a hole somewhere there that will allow access to the pin. http://www.corrado-club.com/

The hole is drilled about an 1/8th of an inch away from the black cover that surrounds the key. I think the "pins" that he is referring to are shear bolts. For those who don't know what a shear bolt is, it is a bolt that the head breaks off at a given torque value. You tighten it up until the bolt head shears off. Why VW used these here, I do not know. I believe that there is enough clearance for normal bolts.
Anyway, I was able to get the bolts out with a needle nose vise grip and reuse them.

I found an easier way, I took most of that stuff off so the whole asembly was loose but still atached, then you get a little phillips head screw driver and you bend the end so it is in an L shape. Then you can fit it up it up in there and take out the screw to the igniton. Then you slide it out and put the new one in and insert the screw, much easier and less time consuming

It may be easier with the column out, but for those of us who did it with the column still in the car, there is not much room in there to work.
I hope you didn't pull that column out to get to the switch! That would be the hardest switch replacement I have seen yet.
