How does the anti-lag system on a rally car work?

Does it use Nitrous?

no nitrous. It has something to do with off-timed exhaust pulses. let me see if I can find more.

try that. its basically creating coombustion outside of the cylinders (ie the exhaust system) upon throttle lift off

Basically, a combination of off timing, very rich mixture when you're off the throttle, and a very very strong exhaust. *bang bang bang*

And the exhaust valve coming from the turbo is never closed, so the turbo is spinning all the time at the highest rate possible, NO LAG
but that afterburner thing was not on my brain until this, quite interesting....

Yes, quite easily, but be ready to shell out for new parts. The turbos last about 500 competition miles with A/L on before they need to be rebuilt/replaced. The exhaust also has to be very strong. And the heat that builds up is enormous. If you used it wisely it would be okay for a while on a street car, but who could control themself
