Re: How hard is it to get the oil pan off a B5 1.8T (b5boost)
Drain the oil.
Unbolt the engine mounts.
Carefully jack the engine up and away from the crossmember using the crank pulley as a lifting point. Make sure you put something (like a big wad of rags) between the pulley and the jack. Go slow and listen carefully for any contact between, or rubbing or stretching of anything connecting the engine to the chassis (read: wires, hoses, tubes, etc). And make sure everything stays clear and has room to move as you go.
That should give you plenty of room to get all the bolts out.
Make sure the mating surfaces are cleaned thoroughly and free of oil and debris before you put the pan back on.
i had to pull the oil pan off my 2001 a4 quattro and it was the biggest pain it butt. I use an engine lift to lift the engine tranny up off the mounts, but first I had to remove just about everything.. horrible
