Your front pads have a wear sensor that will trip and set off a light on your dash when they are critically low. I would not rely on this gizmo, though...your rears may go A LOT sooner.

Wow, that's pretty good. Are your rear pads OK too? Those supposedly wear faster because of the softer pads that VW put on some of the cars.
