the car web sites post 30mpg, same as 2.0L,
that doesnt sound right, 2.0 8v 115hp, 1.8t 20v 180hp and same fuel economy??.

on a trip (highway) i've averaged 28-31 mpg (on a new engine @78 mph)
city.. i dunno

I have an '02 1.8t GTI, started out about 27mpg and currently getting around 31-32mpg.

I get 30 mpg on 50/50 city/highway driving, as long as I can restrain myself from enjoying the turbo too much.

Well, I do ejoy my turbo too much, and have seen as low as 21 mpg

Lifetime average of over 31 mpg on a Passat with the same engine. 33-40 on the highway (depending on speed). Mostly suburban driving. 35 psi in tires and use Mobil 1 5w-30 oil.

300 miles till the light comes on, I have more freeway then city driving. But I run the car at least once every start.

Damm, 1.8t kills the vr6's in fuel economy!!. has anyone had any real troubles with there 1.8t??. I dont want to post a new thread, I hate the vr6 vs 1.8t tension

The sticker on the window says 24 city 31 hwy. If you stay off the boost those number are not hard to come bye. Staying off boost is the trouble

used to get 28 mpg with mixed city and highway driving.
now, after putting on my 17" rims with soft tires, i'm getting25 mpg... big drop. talk about resistance and friction.
