Last night I was at a bar with my friends and some of them commented if anothoer one in our group bought a Jetta, they would have to shoot him or her. I realized that I had sold 3 of my friend on buying a Jetta after they had ridden in them, and now many of the people I know have at least test driven Jettas if not bought them because of their rides in my car.
Especially telling is that most of my friends didn't even know much about VW's before I bought one and now it's on everyone's list. I know I have sold people on different cars before. I convince a co-worker to get a Subaru, my brother and my parents to get a Honda, etc. But I'm amazed at how enthusiasticly some of my friends followed my lead in buying a VW.

My car seems to sell itself.
When I bought my 97 GTI VR6 everyone liked it (usually more after they drove it.)
Now, one drives a 2001 GTI 1.8t, his brother bought a 97 Jetta GLX and my girlfriend drive a 96 Golf GL. I never told them to buy them, or pushed it or anything. Just how it happened.

Conviced 2 people & working on getting my girlfriend to buy one.
1 Still loves his VW to this day. However the other got a TOTAL LEMON VW and swears to this day they are the biggest pieces of sheit this side of the atlantic. I cant blame him.
He bought a used Mk3 golf & in 10,000 miles his heat shield fell off the firewall, reverse gear blew Up & stopper working, windshield washers stopped working, car alarm got stuck in locked mode even when doors were open so He couldn't start the car, and COUNTLESS other problems. I felt bad for recommending VW, and from this point on have been VERY careful when suggesting the brand.
Right now my GF is looking at the beetle with a TDI Engine. I cant wait, Road trips will be so much fun!

In my case I talk about how great the car is and all its features, but when my first friend bought one I was like "Wh--?" In fact, I was trying to steer the latest friend to buy one toward a Toyota Matrix, but he was like "I don't want to buy any car in it's first year."
Generally, they love it from riding in it with me. Not to say I don't recommend it, but generally they love it from the moment they step in it.

i help my cousin pick out a 01 jetta GLS 2.0 with leather pack, lux pack, monsoon, 6 disc cd trunk changer , he couldn't afford the TT and wanted something that look good and i said i like the jetta and he got into lookin at them and started saying hmm looks good and he test drove one and he had a whole smile on his face

he ended up with a black ext with beige int, and my other friend has an 01 GLS vr6 with sport lux package with monsoon, leather, i got him into one because i was still saving up for my jetta and we went to dealerships when they closed and just checked out the jettas on the lots and talk bout what kinda mods we would do

Well, let's see:
mys ister in law: '95 Jetta GL, then 2001 Passat Variant GLS
my mother-in-law: '97 A6 Avant quattro
friend from B-School: 99 Passat GLS and 2001 Passat Variant GLS
another friend from B-School: 2001.5 Passat
friend from work: 2001.5 Passat
another friend from work: 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg
Those are the ones I remember, there may be more. Everybody is still happy with their cars so far. I hope it stays that way. Unfortunately, there is no "refer a friend" loyalty program at VW.

I was sold on the Passat after driving my cousin's A4 (A4 is too small for my family). Also influenced by the 3 A4 owners I work with.
My best friend bought a Passat after driving mine. I was shocked cause this guy (37-same as me

) had never bought a new car ( I do every couple years), much less had a car loan. He was driving a '83 Supra when he bought the 2000 Passat, and had to have the V6 for the sound

The reoccuring MAF problem with my car, as well as a few other component failures during my first six months of ownershiphas actually dissuaded three people from work from buying one. Now several people at work will not purchase VW's. One bought a Focus, the other a Hyundai (can you believe that!) and the other soon to buy possibly a mini cooper. And these people were all VW friendly prior to my car. They've also commented on several articles that question initial VW quality. They keep citing this one article which tested the NB for two years and found it was the most expensive car to maintain and had the most problems among others tested. So, all in all, I've cost VW about 60 grand in sales

That is how it is like work.. we're a virtual VW and Audi Parking lot!
Heck, another engineer is looking at getting a GTI.. I'm trying to get him to get a Rave Green, just so its a different *color*!

I've convinced 2 of my best friends so far.
One got a 2001 Jetta GLX VR6 and the other got a 1.8t Golf.
The one that got the Jetta really wanted a Mustang GT and could more than afford it. I had him test drive the Jetta 1st and he loved it. Then we went and test drove the GT.
Ther was no comparison so we headed straight back to Mountain States VW and got the Jetta.
I'm working on getting another friend to buy a TDI Golf right now.
Now if Only I could get myself into a VW

I convinced my best friend. I let him drive my A2 Jetta when we were in high school. He ended up getting an A3 GTI and hooked it up, even won best of show in a PA car show with it. He use to drive a Nissan Pulsar, now it's VW or nothing.

Do relatives count as friends? I bought my 2001.5 Passat in Nov 2001 and spoke about how pleased I was with it to all my friends and family. My wife drove her sister around a bit and she commented how nice the car was. Well after her sister (and husband) both carefully considered other cars, they bought a 2002 1.8T Tip Silver/beige leather GLS about two weeks ago. One of the reasons they bought it was the standard safety features and the high Consumer's Report rating. As long as I love the Passat, I'll keep singing its praises.

Ahhh when i bought a 1992 GTI 16V 2.0 one of my friends bought a 1995 GTI Vr6 (he was only one that had money, we were all between 17-19 years old) the rest were into Honda. Now only two of them drive Honda sand there are 6 VR6's and 2 1.8T's in the crew!

ive convinced about 3 or 4 people to buy VW's and came across many other vw lovers
everyone seems to love the VW's and all comment on styling and quality.... all of my freinds say that they are seriously considering a VW for their next car ...

At one job, i converted lets see, 7 people bought VWs becuase of of me, most are now on there second ones, one went back to a ford, but his mom bought a jetta becuase of his, Also one guys Wife bought one and they have bought several since and anther guys girlfriend now drives VWs.

Through one of my ex;s I also met a girl who a slookign at a honda the day i met her i told her to go look at VWs, so she did and bought a golf that day, she went to school and left it at home, her mom fell in love so when she got to take it to school, her mom was upset and bought another one for herself.
At my next job, i didnt' convert anyone, heck it was VW dealer, but I sure as heck got them all modifying there cars. Ask myvolkie if he is who I thikn he is, when the hell did you get a C and move ot my hood??????

Now I work at AWE so we um sort of all already drive VW/Audis

and there is no one left to convert to modifying them

Also at the dealer I should have been on commision for selling 1.8Ts over 2Ls and convertign customers from hondas and stuff who didn't want a 2L and the VR6 was too much, I could convince anyone to get a 1.8T and I was just a tech. Sales peopel would send people on the wall back to talk to me

I am evil, I can sell a VW to anyone and I dont' sell cars.
