how many people actually have lowered pickups???

619 Views 17 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  scruff
i am contemplating having my truck lowered by a local drop shop, but have not decided on how i should go about it, i want to also know if anyone here has removed a leaf to drop it(and did it effect the handling of the car) or has anyone flipped the axle to the top of the leafs?? or maybe another way....
i dont want a major drop, i just want it to look a little less like a 4x4.....

I want to know too. I have neuspeed and bilsteins up front. but all jacked up in the front. I've heard of removeing one of the leaf spring, but I hate to loose my ability to carry 1000 lbs of ceramic tile

Re: how many people actually have lowered pickups??? (Kevin Rowley)

my friend bryan lowered his a good bit.. the 16 inch wheels with 45 series tires fill the wheel wells nicely. he just got shocks and struts up front and tight springs then flipped the axle in the back. but the back was too low, so in the rear of the truck he made an extension arm to make the leaf sit an inch or so away from the bottom of the truck. (does that make sense). all in all the truck looks good, and he is trying to find tighter leafs to make it stiffer in the back, but other than that its fine, and it looks cool.

Drop the truck to the ground....
Seriously though, all the dumper caddys I have seen looked SOOO sick....
Re: how many people actually have lowered pickups??? (MiCrO)

Just move your axle to the top of springs, and if that isn't low enough you can get lowering blocks that go between the leafs and springs for even more drop. Just be careful about the shocks on those things. I would just go with and airbag and shock setup to get it where you want it, but that cost a bit of $$$. Or switch it to a 4 link with a coilover setup, but thats lots of $$$ too.

Re: how many people actually have lowered pickups??? (schleppy)

The previous owner of my truck lowered the back by having the rear springs re-arched. No axle flipping and no leaf removing. Lowered truck with all of the leaf springs. Just another option to consider. I am trying to get some pics of my truck tomorrow so hopefully I will have some so you can see what it looks like. I have 13x6 rims with 205/60-13's with a offset of 31 and I have no rubbing problems. It works well for me and I like it.
Re: how many people actually have lowered pickups??? (GTIZRX)

I have.....Cut the plate off the end of the axle and raise it up however much you want to lower it. I dropped mine a full two inches. I also took one inch off the width and my 17s fit perfectly inside the arches. The ride is not wacko like some of the other methods metioned above. Match this with coil overs in the front and your ride can be slammed. I have a couple of spare axles that I can make with any drop you want. E mail me if you want a quote. I also have the cables that make your rear disks ebrake work.

Is it stock height? There are some 4x4s that it can fit under.
Re: how many people actually have lowered pickups??? (scruff)

Yah, I see what you mean. It looks to me like its been raised. Maybe the PO had considerations with the wheel/tire combo that is on it.
