Re: how much does a cabby clipper kit weigh? (Steve H)

I cant remember the exact weight of the bumpers, but it is in the 45 lb+ range
. Not the best for weight savings. You can separate the cover from the rear and remove some metal, but the lightest you will get them to be will be comparable to the GTI aluminum bumpers, they cant hold a candle to the euros in terms of weight.

Re: how much does a cabby clipper kit weigh? (vdubdoug)

Doug, you are funny. first i wanted the cabby kit when i first got my gti. then i wanted to go euro, and light. then i came to my senses, and wanted the car to look good, and go fast and handle well. geez, would having a cabby kit add that much weight that i'd lose at the autocross because of it? i don't think so. coming in first or last, the payout is the same. still gotta look at the car the rest of the time, and better it be a standout in the owners eyes. besides, i've tracked down a set for $300 local. what r u doin Sat am, doug?

Re: how much does a cabby clipper kit weigh? (Chapel)

most of the weight is in the bumper rails. get a set of euro bumpers cut the sides off and trim them down. then rip the bumper rails out of the clipper kit and put the euro bumpers in their place. then you have super light bumper rails. problem solved and the car looks great.

Steve, i think if you buy the cabby bumpers, and you seriously want to auto-x with me this summer... you should just swap them out for the day and throw some stock pieces on there. Chapel is right.. they weigh (all together) around 100Lbs. they weigh a ton. but they sure look the s hit
cant wait to gtet this Auto-X season underway already
