im wondering how much more hp a magnaflow exsuast will give a vr, me and my boy are debating that a exsuast doesnt do anything on a non boosted vr.

3-5 peak hp is all that you can expect from ANY exhaust. But it will make the entire powerband a LOT smoother. And i would suggest magnaflow just because of the sound (it sounds wicked! growls, but not raspy or annoying).
as for chip - it depends on what you want. The GIAC is reprogramable, so as you add mods, you can get it reflashed.

on my old mk3 vr (before any motorwork with only a chip and intake) i made 3hp and 3.75Ft-lbs of torque over another aftermarket exhaust by just switching to MagnaFlow

Here is a article from EuroTuner that did exhaust test on mk4 12v VR6. Same engine I believe.

Jetex exhaust bet it by lest then a few 1/10 of a hp

. But the magnaflow had the highest torque ratings.

I say go with Techtonics chip. My ex has a giac in her vr and I prefer the Techtonics. It just seems to have more driveable power and screams to 7000rpm if you choose...just before the vavles start floating!!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i have giac in my 98 vr. i screams to 7000 no problem. no complaints here.
and valve floating is bad. thats why the stock chip limits the revs.
