How much interest is there for ...

A really low cost (but not low on quality) DP/cat combo?
I am considering making an aluminized steel DP/cat combo for the G/J IV 1.8Ts. This system would be completely bolt on with no hitting or rubbing issues. No CE lights. Easy to install. It wouldnt be modular like our existing DP/cat combo so it would only be able to go into the stock center clamp. If you wanted, you could put any cat back system to it as well.
What would be a reasonable price for it? Whats the demand for it?

I take it these will be 3"? ... if so (or if not, doesn't really make a diff, I guess) I'd likely be had for $300 together... though I don't know how realistic that is. Perhaps in the 350 range?
If people start coming out with insanely priced GB's or just insanely priced quality products, I might be swayed away from my Silvia project...

Like wise;big bang/little buck...
Re: How much interest is there for ... (BMGBeetle)

sounds good
especially for you fair-er weather folk
not too good for NYC streets where at the first sign of a snow flake all 1000 turcks are out salting every road in existance, but oh well
any idea on a cat/downpipe combo for the 02 a4 quattro?

Quality is worth the expense.
If a TB system was offered, and by some reason I bought it, I would use about 4 cans of the highest heat ceramic paint to coat the outside of it for some environmental protection.
Re: How much interest is there for ... (DaBlackJetta)

i liked the price you mentioned before...

How about a low cost cat back? Is that an option? I need 3" cat back to complete my exhaust (now that I have the FM DP and cat) but just don't have the cash flow to buy SS one right now
. I live in fairly humid climate but very rarely do I see salt on the streets in the winter time...

definitely make the aluminized steel combo, i'm in. i have heard nothing but quality from your company and it that is my choice for a good mod. i like the idea of picking my own cat back system not because it will make less HP but because i like sleeper quiet systems, but thats me, make an option for a more quiet muffler that only is 5hp less, that would be rad. plus i dont mind spending money on quality, if the kit is 600-1000 and is worth it, then buying it should not be a problem. -jeffg

Honestly Greg, I think you should price it how you and your company see fit. I mean, giving these things away just for the sake of some cheap vortexers to save money doesn't make sense. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif I want quality and will pay for it...as the saying goes "You gotta pay to play" so if you aren't willing to pay for quality parts (like FM products), then DON'T MOD YOUR CAR!!! Its that simple!

this has got to be the dumbest thing i've read yet... yes, price it where you need to so you can make your living/etc. but just marking stuff up to keep only the hardcore people modded is ridiculous. he obviously wants to increase his customer base, or else he wouldn't be throwing this idea out there. he's a great guy, but i doubt he has the total lack of business sense to lose money on a kit just to make parts for budget buyers.
am i cheap? i guess so.

i didn't say it had to be expensive to be quality. I just meant that you can only make a product SOO cheap, before quality becomes an issue. I mean, sure you can sell a car for $8000 brand new, but it'll be worth the $8k you spent. Now get a $20k car and you'll most likely get $20k worth. You can make a car for $8k, but you gotta cut corners SOMEWHERE to make up that cost difference. Read into a post a bit before you go attacking someone.

Re: How much interest is there for ... (VWTornado)

well i guess i took it differently.
"I mean, giving these things away just for the sake of some cheap vortexers to save money doesn't make sense" didn't sound like a quality concern. sorry about jumping on you. i'm sure if he puts the forced motion name on it, it'll be quality.
now a question about the aluminized steel... i know i asked greg about the longevity of this kind of part, but someone else mentioned salt. i live in wisconsin, and salt makes up almost 25% of my car's yearly life. do these kinds of systems have trouble in such circumstances?
thanks

I'm glad we could end this in a good way w/o bickering!
And I'm sure if Greg puts his companies name on it...it'll be good. No matter what the price.

I'm a Greddy (aluminized mid pipe) cat back owner, It only took 3 months to have a rusted mid pipe, that was before winter!
No more aluminized steel for me

Re: How much interest is there for ... (sebz1.8t)

I guess it depends on where you live. Even though i'm in Calgary, i have no qualms about using aluminized steel. My Nissan Maxima has had an aluminized system from y-pipe back since three years ago, and it still looks like same today...no rust...nothing.
Plus, always make sure you wash your car about once every two weeks during winter. Get into those heated washing bays and make sure you dry your doors and frames after you're done.
Re: How much interest is there for ... ([email protected])

I think it would be crazy to go with anything less than 3" 304SS. The difference in 15' of 16G 304SS and mild steel is less than $50. the difference between 2.5" and 3" is also less than $50. While these costs are what it costs to make the system, all other costs are the same(labor, shipping, etc)
Re: How much interest is there for ... (DaBlackJetta)

Well Greg, I will volunteer my car for your R&D ! Met you last week when you picked up Tom. I think by making this, you might expand sales a bit more. I mean, you have already did all the R&D for the 3" so by transfering that into the 2.5" you know you will have another sure winner. Just had Tom get me the EVO, so I guess next will be the GIAC then to your shop for completion. Will you be using the "flex tubing" in the 2.5" or will you be using standard materials for a cost issue?
