How much Oil does your car use between changes???

581 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jueve grande
I've recently change my car to passat est b3. the car runs great, but I've notice it's using oil. It doesn't burn it. I've held raced it down
the motor way trying to get it to burn some(Smoke)wont do it. It does some times smell like it running rich or oily or both from the exaust.
the Car has 120k, it starts easy, runs great and has good power.
As I live in Scotland I cant get my hands on one of those holy bently manuals.

145K on my 8v scirocco, and it does not burn any oil either
as long as the gaskets are in good functyional shape it is not really supposed to burn anything (indicationg of ring wear otherwise).

None.
If it starts to use oil, valve stem seals are frequently the culprit on high mileage engines.

My 84 used none, 180,000miles my 85 uses 1/2 quart 93,000miles. And I have some mean "tapping" going on!

My 87 Jetta 1.8 8v uses about 5 quarts only above 4000 RPM, the last owner beat the sh!t out of it. My 86 Jetta (same engine) uses none, I am the first owner and it has always had regular oil changes and been driven like a normal car.

I was burning about 1 qt. per 1000 miles in my 88 golf gt until I needed the oil pump and crankcase bearings replaced ($400-Yikes). It uses almost no oil, but it still puffs white smoke on startup. BTW, I had about 103,000 miles then. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
