i plan on registering a car i bought (92 gti) for 500 bucks.
im just curious how much it will cost for registration and plates.
i need new plates for it, unless i can use an old expired one?
im just trying to find out now before i go there and wait in lines just to be too short some change.

Re: how much will i be paying at DMV (EUROJETTA8V1991)

i just went to the CT dmv site and they say that cars 7 year old or newer either go by the bill of sale or book value, which ever is higher. and cars 7 years or older are taxed just by the bill of sale. cant i put down like 100 bucks and only have to cough up 6 bucks plus the 70 for plates?

just put 100 down and youll be safe. when it comes tax time your town will tax you by the book value of the car

how bout this kids:
no more tax sale price. everything is done based on the book value of the car. i was just in there 3 weeks ago to register the coupe and thats what i was told. so:
$75 for reg
+$5 plate fee
+$10 clean-air act
+$25 title fee
+tax on book value
you getting screwed out of alot of money
not to mention wasting a good chunk of a day waiting in that damn office

CT doesn't sound like fun. A year ago this week, I had to register my VW after buying it Memorial Day weekend. Went to DMV on my lunch break. Went in with my documents and was out in like 20 mins. with plates. So, it was pretty easy for me. Plus, since in NJ you can carry over the previous owner's inspection, I was ready to drive once I put the plates on. The previous owner had my car fully inspected probably a week or two before I bought it, and NJ inspections are good for two years. (The fresh inspection was a selling point for me)
