just wondering. had to come over to the vw forum from http://www.corral.net to see what kind of mods you all need to get into the 13s. one thing i have to say, tho, is that your 1.8t is impressive. you must realize how much potential you have with a motor that comes from the factory with a power adder. on my car you have to add a blower or turbo to get a big jump...on yours a chip will do. IMPRESSIVE! GeeTEye (sp?) has a 1.8t gti that got a 50-horse increase with an apr chip, not even in race program...awesome. one thing i have to say, tho...
mustang + turbo=450rear wheel hp & 480lb-ft of torque!
sorry, had to get that in there.
anyway, how much $$$ are you talking to get a 1.8t into the 13s? i mean motor, suspension, and the rest. billyT has some kind of trick dual injector thing happening in his car, that couldn't have been cheap!

That depends on what area of 13's. I'm not one to lecture on this subject but it seems to me that with a 3" downpipe, chip, exhaust and skill people have been reaching 13.8-13.9. These mods will run you anywhere from $1000 to $1600. Keep in mind that the people with these cars know how to drag race. This has become a elite group of few people with this times. If you want mid 13's, most likely a larger turbo is needed and the aformentioned components and possible better tires. A new turbo will run you anywhere from $700 for a good used one to a little over 1g. So combined this will run you from $2100 to $3200. Low 13's are expensive
It would probably be easier to buy a kit rather then make your own. Companies that produce such kits, http://www.goapr.comhttp://www.awe-tuning.comhttp://www.greddy.comhttp://www.pestuning.comhttp://www.vwturbo.com and im sure many others that im forgetting. Prices vary quite a bit. They can be anywhere form $2500 to $4000. For about $5000 you will have a fast, reliable Volkswagen.
Please guys, add and correct.
Hope this helps and is mostly correct

Re: how much $$$ would it take to get a 1.8t into the 13s? (I_Fly_GTi)
so basically you're saying that $3-5k and some decent driving will get you in the low 13s? that seems reasonable. my buddy ran a 14.7 but he is only cutting 2.4-2.5 60-ft times. i think that you are at a disadvantage by virtue of the fact that you are a front wheel drive car (weight transfer and all that). what's a good 60-ft on street tires for a vw?
i can cut consistent 2.1s and the occasional 2.0s, but i'm not the greatest drag racer...i think my sig has my best time, and i have put approx. $2300 in my car...labor and everything. the only reason that it was that much is because i buy the best quality parts, instead of skimping on other parts that would do the job but not last that long. i have heard of stock mustangs (99 and up) running 13.8s with kick-assed driving.

3 mods fellas... just 3 mods on my car.
1. GIAC Version 4 chip (std chip that anyone can buy)
2. http://www.forced-motion.com 3" turbo back exhaust system, with cat
3. http://www.evoms.com Evolutions Cold Air Intake
I also have Coils and used drag radials to achieve a 13.86 @ 100 mph with a 2.0 60 ft time.
Re: how much $$$ would it take to get a 1.8t into the 13s? (DaBlackJetta)
hey blackjetta, what kind of drag radials was those? are they the nitto ones? and did you mount them on your stock 15's? also what is your theory on your launch with the grad radials?
thanks man
Re: how much $$$ would it take to get a 1.8t into the 13s? (1gti2nv)
I use the Nitto 555R drag radials in a 205/45 - 15 size.
I launch somewhat different then other people I have heard talk about launching...
I rev the car to about 2 grand at the start line, but between the first and second lights, I blip the throttle up to about 4K and take my foot completely off of the gas, letting the engine idle down. When the 3rd light flashes, I release the clutch and floor the gas in a smooth motion... the engine is still spinning down from the short throttle blip I did just half a second prior... I use the momentum of the engine to get the car rolling, then the engine starts to come alive again and pulls from there. I have had pretty good luck with this as I get very little wheel spin and consistent 2.0 60 ft times.
Good luck!
