Re: how to clean around the climatronic buttons (phanz21)

I would use some sort of foaming all-surface cleaner, including glass cleaner. Spray some on the controls so that the buttons are covered, let the foam settle a bit (so it goes into the cracks) and then use a clean, soft paper towel or cloth to soak up the solution, "wicking" it out of the cracks. Repeat this several times.
Try to do this without saturating the controls. you don't want too much solution to get into the workings of the control panel.

Do like wyseguy says...take off the trim piece and then unscrew the unit. Then unscrew the face plate and soak it in some medium-to-hot water. If you still have problems with the buttons, take a toothbrush and carefully scrub into the grooves. You can even take the buttons off, but you have to be careful because the clips are rather weak.
I had some Coke drip down my center console a few months ago. When I went to install my OEM aluminum trim, I found Coke everywhere. Inside the radio buttons, Climatronic LCD and buttons, and even under the shifter! So take your time and clean all that gunk out! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Just pop the piece under the Climatronic unit out, and then pop the piece surrounding the Climatronic unit. They're both really easy to pop out, you don't even need a lot of force to yank 'em.

I heard Q-tips saturated with degreaser cleaner is a great way to prep the small hard-to-get areas, then use any trim condition with a different Q-tip.
Usually the cleaning process allows the conditioner to last!
