How to get tight bass from a 6x9 in a Jetta?

I'm sorry this isnt in the audio forum, but those guys dont know the specific problems with the rear deck in an A2.
Anyway, have any of you retrofitted 6x9s into your rear deck? Is there any way to get tight bass out of these rear speakers? I just bought the GLI and it has 6x9s plus a 10" sub in the trunk, plenty of tight bass but I have heard equally good sound from OEM systems without a sub. How do they do it?
Any suggestions on a good, not too expensive 6x9?

I had JBL power series in my last vehicle the 6" pumped but the 6x9's seemed to lack, both were 3-way. The best bass I've heard out of a 6x9 was from a Pioneer 2-way, it sounded just like a shi1tty sub! Don't get me wrong that was pretty good for a 6x9. Stay away from a 3-way speaker as I've noticed they tend to get less bass than 2-way, usually cause the cone isn't solid. Hope this helps.

I put 6x9s in my rear deck..
and yeah.. they dont sound all that great on their own..
I guess the best way to get a decent response out of them is to either deaden the back deck so it doesnt resonate do much.. or build boxes in behind the speakers.

you need a good amp like 50wx2...I found out that when u push a lil more power, even stock speakers will put out some bass...but it bottom out easily cuz itz cheap, with not enough power, the most expensive speakers will still sound flat...make sure your speaker has high sensitivity also if you push it with less power...

buy a cheep set of 8s and put them in there u will be so much happier ...i say cheep cause usually cheep ones need more airspace to sound good and using the entire hatch is plenty of box for them......i rn 8s in the back dash of my car for mid bass.......

either seal them up in a box or if you cant like he said give it power. and you will get the best bass out of a plain old aftermarket woofer. not 3-way or 2-way. put some nice mids and tweeters up from and some 6.5 or 6x9 woofers in the back.

the power series jbl dont' seem to have as much bass as the GT series, but they do have better high-end sound, and an amp for either of them is a MUST.

Well, it doesn't QUITE meet your criteria, but a $38 "200w" amp from BJ's (with an adjustable low pass filter and adjustable output) and a $59 sub from WalMart will hook you up fine. Yep, it's a cheapo setup, but it's tighter than any 6x9... and cheaper than most good ones. And hey - it's in the TRUNK - who looks there???

My friend had infinity 6x9's in his caddy powered with pretty decent power from a fosgate amp. He spend like around 500 for all and it sounded so good. It was very clean and nice bass. The key thing is enough power though.

actually my lincolin has mb quarts 6x9s in the back and 4x6s in the front ...componits in the raer and front doors ..all mb quart powered by a zapco ag 350...and a jl w3 powered by a zapco ag700..through a 1200.00 eclipse cd hu and 20 disk changer in the trunk ..without the sealed jl it would sound like crap ....mine only really do the mids but very clearly .unless u love highs....i wold get a sub ...i just put a 10" sas bass tube in my dads lincolin with a soundstream referance 500 sx ....it has a pioneer premer cd hu with pioneer 6x9s and 6" with some componits in the front and rear all pioneer ...and with the tube it sound like a different system everyone that rides in it loves it ....my car are alittle loud for most ........but the tube cost me 40 bux got it off here and met the guy at work not far from my house ...its working out really great......sas bass tubes are amazing for their size ...very compact and loud ...kicks and 6x9s ass i have ever seen for tight bass

If all you care about it getting the most bass you can from a 6X9 this is the cheap way to do it (ie: the other way will cost a lot of $$$$). Order some 6X9 foam speaker baffles from Crutchfield or pick them up at a local car audio store. Alter your rear deck to accept the 6X9's so that they are top mount. Put sound deadening material on the rear deck while you have the fabric off to cut for the 6X9's. Take your foam baffles and cut the lower portion out of it, so that the part that acts as a cap on the bottom of it is completely gone. Use this to get a good seal around the 6x9. When choosing the 6x9, high frequency responce is not important since they are in the back. Choose a 6X9 that's RMS power is as close to the power output of your reciever as possible (ie: if your reciever puts out 20 WRMS get the 6X9 marked for 35 RMS, not the one marked for 60 RMS). Matching up the power will get the most throw out of the 6x9 for a full sound.
Man, forget the studio, I should just open up a car audio shop
