So this link is dead. I just got a thule setup for the jetta, and I'm not really sure how to install it. Do the brackets go under the weatherstripping?

Yes, if you peel the weatherstripping back, you will notice that there are a couple knobs protruding from the car, slap the rack foots on there and you're pretty much golden.

That and tighten them.

Assuming of course you are asking about the OEM set-up?

just pull it back with your hands (thats how it works on a GTI at least)
