My 84 has 216K miles on the original and it is just now starting to slip.
How tough is it to replace? Do you have to remove the engine or can it be done in the car?

It can be done in the car, usually takes about 8 hours. A friend of mine can do it in 4.

i can do it in under 2 on a 16v or 8v wanna have clutch replacement race ?????????

It's not a real tough job, the 1st time I did one it took me about 4 1/2 hours.

Like any clutch job, the worst part is wrestling the tranny around and lining it up when you go to put it back together. I've only done it once and even with a tranny jack (on rollers), it was a PITA.

On a lift, it takes 2-3 hours. It's not an overly difficult task, just excessively filthy. Do yourself a favour and degrease as much of the car as possible before you start. You'll still be inundated with nasty goo and ooze but it'll be much less than if you'd left everything in it's orginal state.
